: Due to limitations on harvesting in Hawaii,
availability is scarce
. However, it is not an endangered wood.
Koa is known for it rich warm gold/red/brown colors, incandescent grain, contrasting ribbon streaks of colors within its growth rings and stunning figure. It has a unique chatoyancy.
Generally speaking, Koa machines and sands well. It looks magnificent with an oil finish.
